On Saturday young people from across the Diocese gathered at St Joseph’s, Kilmarnock for their Summer Youth Gathering – a day of faith, fun, and friendship. Over the course of the day, young people took part in a wide range of different games and activities led by our S3/4 Junior Leaders which were both fun and a great chance for the young people to get to know each other better.
Before Mass, Louise, one of our adult leaders, spoke on St Maximillian Kolbe whose Feast Day was on Friday and his extraordinary example of Martyrdom. For Mass, the young people enjoyed Mass in the church garden, a beautiful experience during which Fr Kevin reminded them of God’s perfect and immense love for each of them and what he asks of all of us.
Everyone enjoyed lunch – a delicious BBQ, pizza and cakes – with cakes and salads generously donated by parishioners from Kilmarnock. It was wonderful for the whole Youth Office team to see the group making friends from around the Diocese and sharing lunch with their new friends.
The day concluded with a talk from Fr Kevin on the church and the various features and significance of different features around the church, after which the group spent some time in Adoration, praying to God to thank him for the wonderful day, and to share our love for him.
